Ray and Lois had three children: Lois was a loving warm-hearted mother that was always there for her children. As they grew up and left home she went back to work at Brandeis Department store as a security officer.
After retirement she continued to keep very busy with her flowers, landscaping, and antique collecting. Lois loved gardening and plants and was a very talented floral designer able to create amazing flower arrangements or transform a yard into a horticultural paradise.
Lois was a collector and began collecting antiques before it was common to do so. She prized her many collections of glass, furniture, rare purses, thimbles, spoons, among many other items. Her home evolved into a work of art fashioned from a lifetime of pursuing her creative interests and passions. In her youth, she was known for her roller skating talents. Later she was known as a tireless hard worker that showed love and kindness to everyone.
She was the sort of person who was comfortable in the home or in a boat casting a fishing line during one of the many family trips or down at the family cabin. She was the epitome of the loving mom who worked tirelessly to create a loving, inviting, and secure home for her husband and children. While Lois was a humble and unassuming person she possessed a wonderful sense of humor that reminded others to take things in stride, and not to worry about the small stuff.
In Lois moved to Gateway Vista after a fall that broke her hip. There she continued making friends and showing her love for others.
Lois came from a generation that valued hard work, devotion to family, simple pleasures, kindness and compassion. She was the embodiment of what it means to be a good person. Her warmth and affectionate nature inspired others and lifted the spirits of those who knew her. Many considered her as a friend. They started their family in Lincoln and then moved to Grand Island, Nebraska in when Larry became the manager of the Hinky Dinky grocery store there.
He received numerous awards for his outstanding work within the grocery store chain. This is when he became manager of the new Hinky Dinky store that was being built in Grand Island. They remained in Grand Island to raise their family. It is this dream that brought Larry and Kate to Fairbury, Nebraska. Larry had a gift with people and those that had the opportunity to work with him found they respected and loved him for his kind nature and leadership.
He was a great businessman and knew the secrets of running a successful grocery business. Larry also had the gift of craftsmanship. He took on many projects which involved remodeling, painting, wallpapering, and constructing.
He was very handy which gave him the nickname of Mr. Fix-It by his granddaughters. He had a great eye for detail.
When not working or tinkering, you could find him out on the golf course. He enjoyed golfing for many years until his deteriorating health made that difficult. Most importantly, Larry was a loving family man. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren wholeheartedly and would give them all the world if he could. He was always willing to help in any way needed. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Kate Schroeder; his son Craig of Fairbury and daughter and son-in-law Lori and Gus Patsios of St.
